It’s about that time again. Trees and flowers are in bloom, the temperature is reaching the mid 70s, and I’ve officially introduced open-toed shoes back into my wardrobe rotation. Summer is just around the corner, and you know what that means – it’s time to start gearing up for your sales company’s summer outing event! Company outings are a great way for your company as a whole to relax and unwind a bit. It’s a great time of the year to thank everyone for all of their hard work and to increase employee morale (especially when the event takes place on a work day).
The biggest challenge associated with summer outings is selecting what the actual event will be. Everyone has different preferences, so you need to pick activities that will appeal to a large audience, where everyone can be included no matter what you choose. Here are a few ideas from some of the AG BDRs describing their ideal summer outing, it might help you as you evaluate where to have yours this year:
- Boat Cruise. In Boston we have a lot of these to choose from. Boat cruises appeal to just about everyone, especially when there is free food and drinks associated with them!
- Scavenger Hunt. This is another popular event in and around the Boston area. You can split the company into different teams to add a bit of fun competition to the day. These are great for groups that are outgoing and up for anything.
- BBQ at a State Park or Beach. In the past, we’ve gone to state parks in Rhode Island, and have also played with the idea of having a BBQ on Cape Cod to really escape the work environment for the day.
- Six Flags or other Amusement Parks. This is another perfect location that will appeal to many different employees. From rides, to games, to food, to water parks - amusement parks are a great option for your company’s event.
- Company Olympics. If you are looking for something that might not be as expensive as a boat cruise, but just as enjoyable, creating a company Olympics outing is definitely the way to go. We did this last year, and had a blast. The company was split into different teams (I may have been part of the winning team, just saying) and we all competed in all types of games, ranging from egg tosses to horseshoes to a home run derby. The outing took place at a VFW and we had lunch catered. Aside from that, each team wore matching t-shirts and outfits to represent their team. AG Olympics was not only an excellent choice for a summer outing, but it was also a great way to build rapport among the employees.
